Im thrilled to share a success story thats very near and dear to my heart. My own mom lost over 30 pounds and went down 5 sizes – from a size 16 to a size 6 – mainly by making changes to her diet.
She did this after 4 kids, 1 knee and 1 hip replacement surgery. She lost this weight when she was in her sixties.
Today, Im going to tell you how she lost 30 pounds – and show you her before and after pictures.
When my mom was in her thirties and forties, she was in the middle of raising 4 kids. She was running to feed us, take us to soccer and swimming practice, and help us with our homework.
She felt like a machine — going from one thing to another, day after day.
She didn’t have much support — emotional or around the house. She didn’t get a pat on the back or any recognition for her work — and she craved it. My dad was supportive, but he worked longer hours and most of the responsibilities as a mom, especially when we were young, were on her shoulders.
My mom started a habit that she looked forward to as a break from her unending responsibilities. When we were napping, my mom would also lie down to rejuvenate herself. During this time, she would give herself a treat — which was always in the form of chips or pretzels — something crunchy.
(Psst! Did you know theres actually a correlation between desiring crunchy food as an attempt to relieve anger, irritation, frustration, and stress? Its true!)
Feeding herself crunchy food was a way of taking care of herself, in the midst of a houseful of kids and the pressure she had to take care of us. It was a way for her to relieve her feelings of frustration that kids can bring AND at not being appreciated for all the work she was doing.
One day, she went shopping and realized she was a size 16. Up until then, she was ok with her size — but that size, for her, took her over the edge. She looked at herself in the mirror and did not like what she saw.
She thought, “What has happened to me?”
She didn’t want it to keep this weight on anymore! She wanted to feel better about herself, lighter on her feet and wanted to fit into her clothes!
Even though she walked with her friends, did aerobics classes and even went to the gym, and felt like she had energy – she slowly had gained weight.
She had gained weight because she wasnt eating the foods that her body really wanted.
Food is the biggest contributor to weight-gain. . . and weight-loss. More than exercise. So, so, so much more.
My mom started making a few changes to her diet — making the recipes I share with my 1:1 clients – and she started following some of what I did when I lost 20 pounds in 3 months.
Her weight started coming down, and down and down.
She went from a size 16 to a size 8. . and then into a size 6!
Instead of buying clothes, in XL or L, she now buys them in medium and small!
She has a ¼ of the size of stomach as she did before.
She says, “I feel like suddenly my width has shrunk, Im less wide across.”
She looks AMAZINGLY slim and more slender than Ive ever seen her!

She says she feels like shes on top of the world. Her hair is thicker and her nails are stronger. Her skin shines like she is 20 years younger.
She says, “Now my arms and legs are so firm. It feels so good! I love fitting into a size 6!”
The changes in her diet and healing her cravings were the main reason she lost over 30 pounds and went down 5 sizes in a short time.
My mom recently attended a meeting at the school where she works, and they had chips, crackers and pretzels to offer as snacks. She didn’t even feel like eating them — and she didn’t.
My mom has a positive outlook on life now, and always has a genuinely happy smile on her face. She feels satisfied and recognized for what she does for others — and she doesn’t look to food to do that anymore.
Look at how active my mom is — shes a regular at Sacramento Kings NBA basketball games! Also look at my handsome dad! Hes happy that shes happy!
So many people notice and tell her that she has lost so much weight, and ask her for advice now.
She tells me, “I feel like Im on top of the world now! I have so much energy, and I have to return so many phone calls because people are calling to ask me what Ive been doing to look like this!”
Weight-loss transformed my moms life. I’m so proud of my mom.
