How I built a business and lost 40 pounds
When I started this business, MasalaBody, I was still in my 9-5.
Just a few years before, I had given birth to my two children.
Up until then, I had always struggled with my weight. I tried every diet under the sun, but I always ended up gaining more weight than I lost. Not to mention that I was constantly tired and my energy was low.
After my daughter was born, I realized something had to change. I couldn’t keep up with a corporate job and being the best parent I could be for my children if I was constantly stuck thinking about diets and depriving myself.
So I started researching weight-loss strategies and foods. And as it turns out, during all those years I was yo-yo dieting, I had done it all wrong!
I started eating more than I had before. And I stopped feeling guilty about having a glass of wine or a piece of chocolate cake — instead, I enjoyed myself.
But despite always feeling full and satisfied, I started losing weight. And in nine months, I had lost 40 pounds.
The best part? To this day, I’ve kept that weight off.
What’s more, I noticed that I had so much more energy. That led me to start MasalaBody — and here we are today.
While I was running my business, raising my children, working my corporate job as a management consultant, and enjoying my life, my weight stayed off.

How does food affect your performance and productivity?
What you eat has a HUGE impact on how you feel.
As you know, you fuel your brain with energy when you eat. That’s why what you eat has such a big impact on your brain.
For example, consuming omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish) improves your brain functioning. But foods that include saturated fats can negatively affect your cognitive skills and memory. Foods also affect your mood.
And what I’ve found is that weight loss is 80% of the food you eat. One Stanford study shows that overweight adults didn’t lose weight by following a diet; instead, they lost it by doubling down on a few core things like cutting down on sugar and eating more vegetables.
With the right foods, you boost your brain and body. You can literally sit and work or watch Netflix with your spouse while your body melts off fat.
For even better results, add strength training a few times a week. Strength training has been shown to boost brain performance and also boost your metabolism (making it easier and faster to lose weight).
