Throughout my time as an online weight loss coach, my clients have had one thing in common: They all wanted to lose weight and keep it off! Temporary fad diets were frustrating – depriving them of the foods they loved and leaving them with more cravings than rewards. Tired of feeling powerless, they desired a healthy lifestyle that could be easily integrated and adapted into their hectic routines.

I was always aware that my metabolism played a significant role in my weight loss journey but was convinced I was just big-boned and my genetics would never let me be “thin.”

Looking for answers, I dove deep into research that explored the relationship between food and metabolism. With the knowledge I gained through my degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley, research, testing recipes and food combinations, and personal experiences, I have created a weight loss program based on nutritional and behavioral science that ignites the metabolism.

With this program, I have transformed my relationship with food and have coached over 1200 clients to achieve the same, successfully.

Metabolism refers to the chemical processes that take place in your body to convert food and drinks into energy. During this complex process, the calories your body takes in mixes with oxygen to make the energy your body needs. The energy that is created is used for:

The metabolism is the “engine” of your body. When fueled regularly and properly with a variety of beneficial nutrients it should subconsciously exist, leaving you feeling energized and comfortable.

Just like vehicles, no two bodies are the same. They all require their own unique fuel, attention, and maintenance. The faster your metabolism is, the more calories, or “fuel” you can consume without the fear of gaining weight. Conversely, when your metabolism is slow, it’s important to eat the right foods and food combinations to rev up your metabolism.

Understanding how your metabolism works and the food choices you make, plays a vital role in optimizing the energy your body creates. 

There are many reasons you’re not losing weight, but one of the most significant factors for my clients is age. As we age, our biology and our lifestyles change – directly affecting our “engines”. Hormones undergo massive shifts and weight loss methods that once worked in our twenties and thirties are less and less effective. There is no doubt that losing weight over 40 is challenging and as you get older, understanding your metabolism becomes more important than ever.

Many of my clients view themselves as relatively healthy eaters but still struggle to see lasting results. Even when eating seemingly healthy food, portion sizes could be interfering with your hard work. Obviously eating too many calories will affect weight loss, but did you know that eating too little can be just as detrimental

In my program, we discuss how to maximize the nutritional value of food by properly pairing and managing portion sizes to burn fat 100% of the time.

EXAMPLES OF FOOD SUBSTITUTES AND THE PROTEIN, CALORIES, AND FIBER THEY PROVIDE

There are tons of benefits to planning healthy meals packed with protein and fiber. Both supply necessary nutrients that help you to feel fuller longer, giving your body the fuel that it needs to break down fat quickly and efficiently. Even better, they are low in calories so you can eat more. Through my weight loss coaching programs and guidance, my clients are amazed that they no longer crave sugar, feel less restricted, and are surprisingly satisfied within the guidelines I provide. 

Here are three ways you can cut calories, but not substance from your diet:

1 cup of broccoli vs. 1 cup of pasta

By swapping one cup of flavorless pasta with nutrient-rich broccoli, you are not only eliminating tons of unnecessary calories and sugar, but you are adding a substantial amount of fiber and protein that is easily digestible and leaves you feeling full and satisfied. As that isn’t enough to convince you, broccoli also promotes gut health and reduces your risk of various diseases!

How to Swap:

Using broccoli as a base, you can add protein (chicken, tuna, tofu, or others) on top for a greens bowl, which is much more fat burning than a pasta bowl, and surprisingly even more filling! Use a low-sugar, low-fat dressing as an easy flavoring. 

1 cup of cauliflower rice vs. 1 cup of white rice

Riced cauliflower is a low-carb and low-calorie alternative to rice. Though you may not be fooled by the texture, with all the nutritional benefits, you won’t care! Naturally filling, bursting with fiber, and stuffed full of rich antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, these are just some of the 18 reasons to reach for this alternative.

Easy Introduction

Next time you are at the grocery store, check out the frozen cauliflower rice options. They are so easy to make!

1 cup of strawberries vs. a handful of crackers

Next time you reach for a snack, consider your options. Strawberries are a naturally low-fat and low-calorie fruit full of Vitamin C, loaded with antioxidants, and high in fiber, keeping you feeling full longer. Unlike a handful of crackers, strawberries can help with weight management, lower blood pressure, and even fight cancer. Sounds like a perfect snack to me!

How to burn fat better with this swap

Pair strawberries with one tablespoon of nut butter, nuts, or Greek yogurt, to slow the digestion of sugar in the strawberries. This will help you burn fat faster!

CONCLUSION 

A successful weight loss journey requires paying close attention to your body and your diet while making educated choices in the calories you consume. Learning the process takes time and sometimes committing takes encouragement.
