Nagina Abdullah, the founder of Masala Body, was recently featured in an article for Fox News about how spices helped her shed 40 pounds in less than a year.
“If you have 1 teaspoon of cumin [every day] for three months, you could lose up to three times as much weight as you would have otherwise,” Nagina says in the article.
The article discusses how Nagina was able to lose 10 pounds in one month and 40 in just one year. Cumin was just one of the spices she used. Cinnamon, red chili powder, ginger, and turmeric were some of the others mentioned.
There are so many ways to incorporate spices into meals and snacks. In the article, she recommends:
Masala Mixed Nuts
Ingredients:
2 cups mixed nuts (unsalted preferred)
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1½ teaspoons garam masala (alternative: lemon pepper)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Drizzle olive oil over nuts in a mixing bowl.
Blend all spices and add together.
Mix spices and nuts together well with your hands or a spatula.
Transfer to baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.
Take out from oven and cool for 2 minutes.
