Though pre-packaged frozen foods sound unhealthy, there are several that are healthier than others. Having these as options for those nights when we don’t feel like cooking or to take to lunch can often be better than alternative options. 

Frozen ready meals are extremely convenient, but are associated more with being unhealthy, containing large amounts of fats and sugars.

However, there are some companies that actually offer extremely healthy frozen meals for weight loss.

1. Lean Cuisine – Butternut squash ravioli

4. Amy’s Light and Lean – Bean and Cheese burrito

Burritos are an extremely filling meal generally, and this frozen meal alternative is no different. Amy’s Light and Lean Bean and Cheese burrito (5) can be microwaved and ready in less than two minutes and is made with a whole wheat wrap, pinto beans, and brown rice. All of these ingredients help to nourish and fuel your body.

This particular ready meal is both soy and nut free, making it suitable for those with allergies, and contains only 280 calories and 5g of fat. This just goes to show that not all burritos need to be starchy and bulky, and making the right substitutions can result in a healthy, tasty and filling meal.

5. Healthy Choice – Simply Chicken and Vegetable stir fry

Healthy Choice Cafe is yet another producer of frozen ready meals with an emphasis on health, as you can tell from the name! The Healthy Choice Café Steamers Simply Chicken and Vegetable stir fry (6)is low on carbohydrates, and still full of flavor. This meal contains around 15g of carbohydrates per portion, so if you are on the Atkins diet, or something similar then it is perfect for you.

This dish contains chicken breast, broccoli, edamame beans, carrots, peppers and onions, and is coated in a sesame soy sauce. Every serving has just 190 calories and 4g of fat. Also, as an added luxury, this dish contains dual steaming trays, so the food and sauce are separate, preventing any sogginess.

6. Kashi – Fire Roasted Quinoa bowl

If you are wondering where the vegan option is, then look no further! The Kashi Fire Roasted Quinoa bowl (7)is a tasty frozen ready meal, which also happens to be 100% vegan. This dish is sure to keep you satiated for hours with quinoa and lentils, topped with a vast array of vegetables, including yellow peppers, kale and artichokes.

Each serving contains around 260 calories, with just 12g of fat. It also contains 10g of protein, and 8g of fibre, all whilst being made from completely natural ingredients. This spicy, but not overwhelmingly so, dish is great for vegans as an evening meal.

7. Saffron Road – Chicken Pad Thai

Another great option for healthy frozen ready meals is the Saffron Road Chicken Pad Thai served with rice noodles. This meal consists of roasted white chicken meat, served with carrots and scallions, and a peanut sauce which isn’t dissimilar to the ones you’d find at a fancy Thai restaurant!

Each serving contains 500 calories and 12g of fat, along with 75g of carbohydrates. The organic chicken meat is 100 percent vegetarian fed, and raised without antibiotics. This is a lot healthier and cheaper than a Thai takeout, and is best served as a lunch, or an evening meal with some accompaniments.
