At 47, Karine faced her toughest weight loss battle yet. With perimenopause kicking in and menopause approaching, she feared entering this stage might crush her hopes of ever reaching her desired weight. Karine had always struggled with her weight which led her to try various trends such as liquid diets and extreme calorie restrictions (800 a day – yikes!). Disappointed by Weight Watchers' results, she turned to what she'd learned before, attempting a path of "healthy eating” on her own. No matter how much fried food she avoided and how many veggies she ate, she continued feeling hungry, deprived, and fed up! That’s when she reached out to MasalaBody.

Karine's success in adopting a sustainable and healthy lifestyle stemmed from her collaboration with an online weight loss coach through my 8-Week Slim Down Jumpstart program. As a result of the program, she lost 10 pounds, 1.5 inches from her bust, 2 inches from her waist, and melted away 2.5” from her hips. With 2% body fat lost, her jeans fit looser and her confidence grew, but her relationship with food was her greatest accomplishment!
Once Karine shifted focus away from the numbers on the scale and started listening to how her body felt, her perspective on weight loss changed.

Since breakfast was her biggest challenge, she started there. Karine swapped her daily morning routine of carbs, sugar, and eggs, for protein-rich smoothies and high-fiber veggies. Karine made lunch her biggest meal, making sure to include more protein, healthy fats, and veggies– even adding carbs so she would have more time to digest them and feel fully satisfied until dinner. She added vitamin, nutrient-rich foods to make her meals more satisfying and was even able to eat her favorite potatoes and pasta, just in moderation.

As time went on, she was able to plan, visualizing what her plates would look like– plates packed full of satisfying protein, high-fiber veggies, fruits, and flavorful slimming grains. She managed to reduce her cravings by incorporating foods that boosted her metabolism and left her feeling satisfied. As a result, her body no longer craved unhealthy carbs or sugars.
“NOW WHEN I EAT MY PASTA, I SAVE IT UNTIL THE END- MAKING SURE I EAT MY PROTEIN, VEGGIES, AND FRUITS FIRST. THIS HELPS ME NOT EAT AS MUCH AND ENSURES I AM EATING THE HEALTHY STUFF FIRST.”
Karine learned multiple strategies like the one above, and others including timing, combining, and portioning of foods from MasalaBody.
Had Karine continued down her path of "healthy eating" without MasalaBody's guidance, disappointment would have lingered. Despite eating the right foods, the empty calories needed to curb hunger would have added up, leading to weight gain. This trend of extra calories would have left her feeling disheartened and as menopause approaches, she may have given up altogether.
