Comforting Slow-Cooker Pinto Beans

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound dried pinto beans
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ pound ham steak
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Salt, black pepper and garlic powder to taste

Instructions
 

  • After washing and sorting the beans, soak them overnight in cold water.
  • Drain and rinse the beans.
  • Add them to the slow cooker with the other ingredients except for the ham.
  • Cut the ham into chunks, and brown it in a separate skillet.
  • Add the meat and drippings to the slow cooker.
  • Cook on high until the beans are tender, at least 5 hours.
